Toby Jones

Multi-award winning Toby Jones is one of the most distinguished film, television and stage actors of his generation. Toby has recently lead the British Home Guard as Captain Mainwaring in Dad’s Army, returned to TV in The Secret Agent on BBC1 and announced that he will be playing a villain in the next series of the multi award-winning hit Sherlock. The Witness for the Prosecution will be Toby Jones second time starring in an Agatha Christie TV adaptation, following his part as Samuel Ratchett in 2010’s TV film adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express.

Talking about Agatha Christie, Toby reminisces about enjoying the 1978 adaptation of Death on the Nile at the cinema, and compares the impact of Christie to Shakespeare.

You absorb Agatha Christie like you absorb Shakespeare.
Toby Jones

In The Witness for the Prosecution Toby Jones plays John Mayhew, an exhausted solicitor burdened by poverty and guilt, who lives a grey and passionless existence. Leonard’s case changes everything for Mayhew; his personal connection to the young man fires Mayhew with an unexpected determination to fight for him and to stop at nothing to prove Leonard's innocence.
