The Mousetrap is the longest running play in the world and was described by The Daily Telegraph as, "The cleverest murder mystery of the British theatre."
The author herself seemed a little bemused by its popularity, "It's not really frightening. It's not really horrible. It's not really a farce. But it has a little of all these things and perhaps that satisfies a lot of people."
Longevity is often seen as a sign of success. What is it about The Mousetrap that keeps audiences coming back for more? The characters? The plot? Or the shock ending? Does it truly deserve its place in history?
