Murder is Easy : Sunday 8pm, ITV1
A chance encounter on a train leads us to the quiet village of Wychwood. A picturesque setting, much like any other English village; though as Miss Marple says, "there is a great deal of wickedness in village life".
And so it proves in Wychwood. Poor Miss Pinkerton is the only one to suspect foul play. No one else believes her but for a kind stranger. Fortunately that stranger is Miss Marple and she is more than a match, even for this most complex case.
Julia McKenzie, stars as Miss Marple, in this latest film. Adapted to include the character of Miss Marple, the original novels hero was Luke Fitzwilliam. Of all the "policemen" Julia McKenzie has worked with in the films she was particularly fond of Miss Marple's relationship with Fitzwilliam:
"I enjoyed the relationship with Luke Fitzwilliam (Benedict Cumberbatch) because he was a retired military policeman, and so he didn’t have to go by any rules set by Scotland Yard. Both of us felt we could do it together. It was a nice easy relationship and I didn’t have to force my views on him or wrap up any clues I’d found while waiting for the male ego to accept something from this dotty old woman! I think Miss Marple is generally fond of him like the son she never had - he doesn’t seem to have any family and so she fills that role of mother very easily for him too.”
The film will be shown this Sunday at 8pm on ITV1. Let us know whether you agree with Julia's description of Fitzwilliam and discuss the production with other fans in the forum.
