Overview

A new series of dramas based on the stories of Miss Marple debuted on ITV in the UK in 2004, starring Geraldine McEwan in the title role. McEwan played the detective for three series, with Julia McKenzie taking on the mantle in 2009 for series four, five and six. The series commenced with straight adaptations from the Miss Marple novels, with subsequent episodes also including adaptations of novels that do not feature Miss Marple.

Recurring characters include Dr Haydock (although he is played by three different actors), and the coroner - who appears in four episodes. Dolly Bantry features in two episodes, each time played by Joanna Lumley.

In 2005 Geraldine McEwan was nominated for a Satellite Award for her role as Miss Marple in the first series. This series was also nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award in 2005.
