An expanded version The Submarine Plans, which was serialised in six instalments in the Daily Express from April 1937, The Incredible Theft first appeared in the collection Murder in the Mews in the UK later that year, but was not published in the original US edition.

The story was adapted for TV in 1989, as part of the first season of Agatha Christie’s Poirot starring David Suchet. The TV adaptation also added the characters of Hastings (Hugh Fraser), Japp (Philip Jackson) and Miss Lemon (Pauline Moran).
