When Poirot receives an invitation to dinner from Robert Astwell, he is happy to accept. When he arrives, however, he discovers that Astwell is universally disliked. When Astwell is discovered murdered there are no shortage of suspects!

The Under Dog first appeared in the UK in The London Magazine, October 1926, having already been published in the US. The first collection it appeared in was 2 New Crime Stories, published by The Reader’s Library, 1929. In 1960 it appeared in its first Christie-only collection, The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding and a year later taking the title spot in the US collection.

It was adapted for TV in 1993, starring David Suchet as Poirot, and included the characters of Hastings (Hugh Fraser) and Miss Lemon (Pauline Moran).
