More about this story

Mr Roberts has lived contently, is happily married and has a steady job. Tired of the humdrum nature of his days, he longs for adventure and it is Parker Pyne who assists.

In this story Parker Pyne once again makes use of his beautiful assistant, Madeleine de Sara. However, this creature, whom Pyne has referred to as the “Queen of the Vamps”, is not everything she seems; better known to her family as Maggie Sayers, she is the fourth daughter of an honest hard-working family living in Streatham, South London.

This story first appeared in the US in Cosmopolitan magazine, and later in the 1934 collection of short stories Parker Pyne Investigates.

It has never been adapted.
