Having purchased the goblet at auction, art collector Emery Power, enlists Poirot's assistance in returning the stolen item. But it is the apples on the design of the goblet, which catch Poirot's interest. The mystery takes Poirot to Ireland where he must connect an Irish gambler and a group of nuns in this perplexing puzzle.

Published in 1940 in the USA in This Week as The Poison Cup and Strand Magazine in the UK. It was included in the collection The Labours of Hercules in 1947, which was adapted for TV in 2013, as part of the final series of Agatha Christie's Poirot.
